The best way to keep your home clean is to use a robot vacuum. It can remove pet hair, dust, and other particles on the surface.

Certain robots can connect to smart assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free environment. Look for models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum is an excellent choice for many households. It is able to vacuum and mop well and has a great navigation system that includes both GPS and laser sensors and offers a broad range of features and controls accessible via the app. It comes with a useful feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require additional attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas that you don't want it to be. It also gets software updates, just like the other Roomba products, which enhance it over time.

It's expensive but it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It has a powerful battery that can clean the entire house in less than two hours. It also switches between vacuuming and mopping at the press of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the bin after each run, it automatically emptys into an even larger waste container on top of its charging dock.

It also has many other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses cameras and processor-powered smarts in order to detect obstacles. It's not often damaged or stuck during a cleaning process, and it's the best in avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. It is not as accurate in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While Anker-owned Eufy has earned its name in low-cost robot vacuums it's never offered an all-in-one model that could also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features and is able to compete against more expensive models.

Laser navigation is the primary selling point of this machine. The X8 uses laser mapping technology that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to create an accurate picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is great for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on bare floors that can carry debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with relative ease. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are good in grabbing corners and edges. It's not a great kitty litter picker, though our tests have shown it only removes about 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

There's a basic mopping mode that utilizes the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is good for spills that are not too large but you cannot limit the amount of water it uses which can limit its effectiveness on more serious stains. However, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, with a higher pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, stunning design and great navigation. There are a few niggles in its operation, which prevent it from being considered the top smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses LIDAR to map the space as well as a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is mapped, the app lets you create virtual no-go zones as well as areas that you want to clean. will clean automatically. 4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robovac looks just like your typical robot but it's a step up in performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2D maps of your home, and uses them to avoid obstacles and navigate. It's also able to detect common obstacles such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. This combination of sensors, along with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it away from stairs, makes it one of the fastest vacs we've tested.

In our tests, it was able to could climb over the thick shag rug and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation skills were impressive as well and its overall score on carpet and bare floors was better than the competition. It took in 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competition's. There's a cleaning button at the top and you can choose to start it using the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. 5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic low-cost robot vacuum for a reasonable cost, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It's not equipped with some advanced features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping found in higher-end models. However, if you don't need these features, you could save money.

The robot is simple to set up and use. It does not require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi connection, however it does have a remote control that allows you to select between different modes and adjust the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to send the robotvac on the schedule of cleaning.

In our tests, the 11S was very effective at getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors and carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to reach under furniture and other objects that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was able to go effortlessly over door thresholds and transition between floors of different types to another.

The 11S, just like other robots, can also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can avoid this by keeping such objects off the floor and using the possibility of a cord organizer. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin periodically by replacing the filters and changing or washing the brushes as needed.

6. IRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's costly however it's a top performer and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum available. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping is something to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than the majority of its rivals, for instance the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. While its app isn't the most responsive, and the 980 does spin out a bit when crossing cables, it's a highly efficient robot vacuum.
